3 Epic TED Talks on Education

If you’re anything like me, your day is packed with grading essays, prepping lessons, and trying not to be a downright hermit. I sometimes feel I need an extra boost just to survive the fleeting chaos without totally losing it.

That’s exactly why I love TED Talks.

They’re quick, relatable, and often just the right mix of challenge and motivation to recharge my teacher brain. No fluff, no filler—just real ideas from people who genuinely care about education.

In this post, I’m diving into three must-watch TED-Ed Talks that don’t simply inform — they challenge your mindset, fuel your creativity, and remind you why you started. Whether you’re a classroom veteran or just trying to survive your first year, these talks are 100% worth the watch.

The first video gets me every time.

The second is a demand for action: “Make the broccoli taste like dessert.”

The third is simply… magical.

Let’s get into it. 🎬👇

🎓 Rita Pierson – “Every Kid Needs a Champion”

If you haven’t watched this talk yet, just do it now. Please. Seriously.

Sadly enough, Rita Pierson passed away just a few months after delivering her now-iconic talk, one of the most widely shared in the education space — a powerful reminder of the importance of connection, empathy, and believing in the potential of every single person. Because teaching shouldn’t be about lowering expectations, but about meeting students with humanity.

I’ve probably watched this vid like five times now, and counting.

📱 Luis von Ahn – “How to Make Learning as Addictive as Social Media”

As the mother of a 15-year-old who can spend 45 minutes hyper-focused on IG kitten reels and then zone out during a 10-minute Spanish Language morphology assignment, this talk felt… uncomfortably accurate, to say the least!

Luis von Ahn, one of the minds behind Duolingo, takes a fresh look at how education can borrow the same tools that keep us glued to our screens — things like gamification, instant feedback, and a bit of brain science. His take? If social media can be addictive, then learning can be just as engaging — maybe even more so. Who says lessons can’t be fun?

✨ 3. Christopher Emdin – “Teach Teachers How to Create Magic”

Christopher Emdin isn’t just a speaker — he’s a force. Within seconds of starting his talk, I was totally absorbed. You don’t just listen to him; you feel every word.

His message? Teaching should be magic. Not the kind with glitter and wands — but the kind that gives students goosebumps, that pulls them in and makes them feel seen, heard, and lit up from the inside. He draws stunning connections between teachers and performers — barbers, pastors, hip-hop artists — people who own the room, who create energy, who inspire. And he dares us, as educators, to do the same.

Each of these talks brings something different to the table: heart, innovation, and a bit of real-world magic. Whether you’re in the trenches with middle schoolers or leading professional development, there’s something here for you — something to remind you of why you chose this path in the first place.

So go ahead. Hit play, let yourself be inspired, and enjoy.🙌🏼
